How to perform an autopsy on pigeon
Pigeon autopsy is an inspection and dissection of a pigeon body after death. The postmortem examination is one of the most important methods in clinical diagnosis confirmed of pigeon diseases. As for determination of the cause of death, the pigeon autopsy can help with the combination of Clinical Diagnosis and Laboratory Diagnosis.
About the pigeon numbers. When doing the autopsy, the amount of a specimen should be enough, the result is lack of representation if the amount is small.
Make sure the autopsy is under a pure environment and if the pigeon specimen is still alive, it must be killed before the pigeon autopsy. There are many ways to killed a pigeon, and the only requirement is to prevent environmental pollution by blood. The suggestion killing way is without bloodletting and break that birdies neck directly.
The autopsy process is always cut the pigeon from the mouth down through the proboscis then to the gullet with a scissors in order to explode the throat and the esophageal mucosa. So you can easily check the changes of the nose, throat and the esophageal mucosa. Then go on cutting the throat to observe the secretions there. Take the the supine position of the pigeon, pluck the hair from both the chest and stomach. To explode, you should cut from the form the chest bone to the anal, then cut along the side ribs.
